Tiong Bahru Bakery sits quietly tucked in the heart of Bukit Merah at 8 Maju Ave, offering a solid spot for those after quality coffee paired with refined pastries. This isn’t your grab-and-go café; the atmosphere leans toward relaxed and cozy, making it ideal for a mid-morning break, a casual catch-up, or some light work between errands or appointments. Locals often appreciate the calm vibe, especially in the quieter hours of the late morning or afternoon.

The coffee here commands attention — expect smooth, well-crafted lattes and flat whites, with options like a creamy Cafe Latte and an Iced Chocolate Flat White that aren’t overly sweet but rich in flavour. There’s enough variety to please both coffee purists and casual drinkers. The free-flow filtered water and simple butter and jam offered at the table add a down-to-earth touch, showing it’s a place mindful of the small comforts.

Pastry-wise, it’s clear the bakery emphasizes quality and a subtle balance of traditional and innovative flavours. Savoury options like the Miso Salmon & Edamame Quiche or the Gochujang Cheese Twist add a twist to the usual café fare, while sweeter treats — from a flaky, buttery Almond Croissant to a tart Lemon Tart and the Kopi Tart layered with coffee flan and praline — cater well to those looking for a delicate indulgence. Many visitors seem to linger over these pastries, appreciating the flaky textures and nuanced fillings.

The clientele is a mix of steady local regulars, including working individuals who use the space as a low-key office alternative, friendly groups catching up over tea, and couples sharing a light brunch. It’s not a noisy spot, so if you’re after a lively crowd or a late-night hangout, this bakery doesn’t fit that mold. Instead, expect a space where the café hum quietly complements the aroma of freshly baked goods and roasted coffee beans.

Practical considerations: it can get fairly busy in peak breakfast and lunch hours, so arriving a little before or after the typical morning rush helps snag a comfortable spot. The pricing leans toward the premium side, reflective of its location and quality. Payment perks, like card promotions that offer free croissants, add a nice bonus if timed right.

For those looking for something more than just a quick caffeine fix—whether it’s a spot to relax, treat yourself to specialty pastries, or get a bit of focused work done in peaceful surroundings—Tiong Bahru Bakery fits comfortably in the neighborhood’s eclectic and laid-back café scene.

I stopped by for tea break, and tried their chocolate éclair, lemon tart and a latte. If you use a Citibank card for the payment, you get a free croissant! The place offers free-flow filtered water, along with butter and jam, making it a great spot to enjoy a light snack. The atmosphere was quiet in the late afternoon, perfect catching up with friends. Overall, a charming place for a cozy tea time!

Had breakfast here at around 830am as Little Farms kitchen only opens at 9am. Had a bacon and scrambled eggs sourdough, apple chausson, hojicha latte, and cafe latte. Everything was pretty good. The sandwich was very hearty, though the sourdough was a bit chewy and had to bite off at times. Hojicha latte legit tastes like hojicha without being overly sweet, and cafe latte was creamy and smooth, but I would've liked it a bit stronger. Apple chausson was sweet as expected. 5th bill came up to be just under $40 for 2. Pricey, but service was earnest and ambience was pretty good as well.

I love the cozy vibes and friendly service here. The almond croissant is a personal favourite buttery, flaky, and just the right amount of sweetness. A perfect spot to chill and treat yourself!

Pricey as expected but lovely space and today's food was on point. Shared a Bacon and scrambled egg sourdough sgd12 and Apple chausson sgd8.5 with my husband. Sourdough was tasty with the cheese and bacon. Tomatoes in it were juicy. Scrambled eggs were way over cooked, they should just change it to omelette if they can't get the scrambled eggs runny. Bread itself was alright but as expected of sourdough, crust was tough. Apple chausson was very delicate and sweet, packed with substantial amount of apple filling. Perfect pastry for those with sweet tooth. Both of us also ordered drinks. His cafe latte sgd6 (free upsize due to food ordered) was smooth and nicely bitter. I ordered a turmeric latte but was served a hojicha latte, both cost the same sgd6.5 and anyway I was deciding between the two, so I didn't mind. Also because the old lady serving us the drinks was so matronly and lovely that I didn't have the heart to make her bring back the drink to get it changed. The houjicha latte was pretty good, fragrant and not too sweet, had the oomphy kick of houjicha, was a great neutraliser of the sweet apple chausson. Atmosphere was great, chill indie music playing softly in the background. You hear chatter of French expats, conversation of Singaporeans, and the clinking of coffee cups on saucers. There's a lovely area with natural light but unfortunately it's near kitchen and toilets. Air con is adequate. Service is pretty good, no negative vibe. They open so early at 7.30am when almost nothing else in the area is open. We'll definitely be back to chill here with a cuppa if we're in the vicinity on a weekday morning.

Salted egg yolk brioche, $5.4 after tax Served warm after a quick toast in the oven, the brioche bun was decorated with desiccated coconut, little did I know it came with a generous amount of salted egg yolk filling inside. The bun itself is soft, buttery and the filling is slightly grainy (the sugar wasn’t fully melted when mixing but I don’t mind, it added some texture). I particularly liked that the filling was very balanced, neither too sweet nor savoury, quite milky. Verdict: 9/10 I think I found a new favourite at TBB (I love my Kouigh Amann) #brioche #pastry #sgcafe

My recent visit to Tiong Bahru Bakery for a morning breakfast with my family was a delightful experience overall. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere added to the pleasant start to our day. The bakery offered a tempting array of breakfast options, and we were pleased with our choices. The quality of the food was commendable, and we particularly enjoyed [mention a specific dish if applicable]. While the atmosphere was inviting with a charming bakery vibe, I must note a minor hiccup in our experience. The cashier staff, though efficient, seemed a bit rushed during the order process. It would have been more enjoyable if there was a bit more time given for customers to review the menu and make their selections without feeling pressured. Despite this, the overall service was friendly, and the staff was accommodating. The cozy ambiance and tasty breakfast made up for the brief rush during the ordering process. In conclusion, Tiong Bahru Bakery is a great spot for a morning meal with family. The delicious food and pleasant atmosphere make it a worthwhile visit. I would suggest a bit more patience during the ordering process to enhance the overall customer experience. I look forward to returning for another enjoyable breakfast.
